At Holy Trinity, we are keen for our pupils to be active and to enjoy competitive sport and exercise. Our units are chosen specifically to suit the needs of our pupils and keep them interested and engaged in the activities. We also work with local clubs to provide meaningful and professional sessions to encourage pupils to take an interest in what is available in their local area.
EYFS/KS1
In EYFS/KS1, the pupils work on foundation skills such as movement and ball skills. This gives them the ability and confidence to play and join games and encourages participation. They also are introduced to balance through dance and gymnastics.
KS2
In KS2, we then move towards applying those foundation skills to a wide range of sports and games. Cricket, rounders, rugby, netball, basketball are all selected as popular sports that they can then pursue outside of school if they wish. Dance and gymnastics move from foundation skills to working more on expression and creativity with units linked to themes and specific part of balance and movement. Other activities such as orienteering and karate give pupils a chance to experience activities they may otherwise have overlooked.
We are keen for all pupils to enjoy and participate in physical education, sport and activity in school and are sure that our current curriculum encourages us all to join in together.
