Holy Trinity Primary School

Lighting the Way Together

“Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand.”
Stevie Wonder

At our school we enjoy music in many different forms and understand that music is a common language for all, this is what makes it so accessible. We are proud to be a Music Mark School where we aim to provide high quality music education to our children.

Our choir was proud to take part in Voices Together Calderdale in July 2024. Please enjoy the film clip which was used to promote our school. Click on the link below:

Holy Trinity Choir Voices Together

Mrs Huby runs our choir of Key Stage 2 children. They sing at external events and they are part of our school church services across the year.

We not only sound great, but look the part too in our very impressive sparkly t-shirts.

Music in in EYFS

Class teachers deliver music following the Early Years Curriculum. Children listen and respond to sounds and music. They learn singing (traditional songs and nursery rhymes) , chanting, rhyme, rhythm and body percussion.

Music in KS1

Class teachers deliver music following the National Curriculum. Children are encouraged to develop skills through the use our Jolly Music scheme where they use their voices to sing and chant, play tunes and untuned percussion, listen and respond to different types of music and experiment making sounds.

Music in Key Stage 2

We work very closely with Calderdale Music who deliver the music curriculum alongside classroom instrumental lessons.

  • Year 3 – Recorder
  • Year 4 – Glockenspiel
  • Year 5 – Ukelele
  • Year 6 – Flutes

We aim for children to be confident in using musical vocabulary, sing and perform instruments with control and expression, develop the skills in improvisation and composition and discuss musical features from a variety of geographical and historical origins.

The following key areas which, when taken together, all contribute towards the steadily increasing development of musicianship:

  • Singing
  • Listening
  • Composing
  • Performing/Instrumental Performance

Please see our Music development plan summary for more information about how Music is promoted across the school.

Below, you will find our Music Intent Statement and Curriculum Overview.

  • Have music as part of your routine at home
  • Sing along and dance – have fun!

“Music does bring people together. It allows us to experience the same emotions. People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit. No matter what language we speak, what color we are, the form of our politics or the expression of our love and our faith, music proves: We are the same.”

John Denver
