School structure 2026-2027
Dear Parents and Carers,
You may be aware from the national news, that schools across the country continue to face significant challenges due to lower pupil admission numbers which impact on school funding. Unfortunately, our school is no different.
To meet these changing demands and with consideration of our school budget, it has become necessary to re-structure our class arrangements from being individual year groups to mixed classes.
The structure from 2026-2027 will be as follows:
Nursery
Reception
Year 1/2 and Year 1/2
Year 3/4 Year 3/4 and Year 3/4
Year 5/6 Year 5/6 and Year 5/6
Maths will continue to be taught in individual year groups across school. English will also be taught in year groups for Years 1 and 2. The Key Stage 2 curriculum is set out into Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 objectives and these can be covered within mixed year group lessons.
The staff team are currently working on our curriculum plans so we can best meet the needs of the children. This will be communicated by our curriculum newsletters.
The children will have a number of transition sessions with their new class prior to the Summer break.
Research referenced by DfE-associated bodies like the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) suggests that mixed-age classes do not negatively impact academic progress. They also highlight social and emotional benefits, such as older pupils developing leadership skills and younger pupils learning by example. Please be mindful that it is our job as teachers to meet your child’s needs, address gaps in learning, ensure your child makes the appropriate amount of progress and above all, is happy and settled in school. The needs of children are so varied in classes already, so please do not unduly worry about this new arrangement. As ever, should you wish to discuss this, please get in touch.
More details will follow regarding class arrangements and transition, but we felt it was important that you knew about this structural change as soon as possible.
